Shots
Ok so there now officially three new places to hang, drink, dance and eat in San Carlos. Lets start out with Shots, formerly Ruby’s Wine Bar located at the Marina San Carlos. With a complete remodel and a hugely increased interior space Shots opened up with a bang last night. The D.J. was rocking the tunes sounded crisp, the service was great and well there were lots of chicas dancing around. If the first night is any indication of what the future has in store then we think Shots will be around for a good long time!!
Tortugas
Philippe has now opened up Tortugas were Five Palms was formerly located. Right in front of the Casa de Talavera as you pass the glorieta on your way to south side of the Marina San Carlos. Many of us will remember that this location, back in the day, was called The San Carlos Grill. Where one of our favorite dishes back then was referred to as the Gringo Lingo! Tortugas has two menus. The Bar menu features pretty much what they had when they were located at the original location and the Bistro part of the establishment is a little bit higher scale. Knowing Philippe and his attention to detail I think we will see Tortugas prospering in the future. I have noticed that on the weekends around dinner time he has been packed every night!
Mr. Iguanas
Last but not least is Mr. Iguanas. Many will remember Olga who for years had worked at Off the Edge/Tortugas. Well Olga has now got her own place and Mr. Iguanas is located in front of the very first Pemex gas station as you enter town. Right next to Luis Nar tacos. Actually Mr. Iguanas and Luis Nar share part of the same building, which as many will remember was JJ’s Taco Stand were many have eaten and few have died. Now for some of the long time residents here if you want to really go back in time the building where these two restaurants stand was the original Rescate building! Olga has 30 pesos Negra Modelos so she is going to remain close to my heart and there is music on the weekends.
