So the below article was published on line today. What the article states is that Guaymas cops now get a new arsenal to deal with drug dealers. Here is what the cops new toys will be and for some reason there is no mention of the caliber of the weapons.
- 66 colt automatic assault weapons
- 20 Glocks
- 30 Barettas
Clearly what this means is the city and state government are thoroughly aware that here in Guaymas there will certainly be an escalation in what can only be labeled as a completely failed war on drugs in Mexico. What I find interesting is that the cops get new firearms yet there is no mention of beefing up the ability of state or local police to do real in depth investigations such as money laundering which would really help to dismantle the hold drug cartels now clearly have over San Carlos, Guaymas and Empalme. Basically what we are going to have here is more of the same failed policy that has plagued Mexico since Felipe Calderon formally declared a war on drugs which is; let’s throw some more fuel on the fire drug policy which has not worked for the last decade. Here is a great article by Jose Gil Almos on the subject. Looks like global warming is not the only thing that is going to heat things up around San Carlos in the near future.
Entrega Ernesto Munro armamento a Guaymas
GUAYMAS, SON., JULIO 09 DE 2015.- El Secretario de Seguridad Pública del Estado de Sonora, Ernesto Munro Palacio, entregó este jueves armamento a la Policía Municipal de Guaymas, con una inversión superior a los 2.1 millones de pesos.
Acompañado del Alcalde, Otto Claussen Iberri, el funcionario estatal encabezó el evento simbólico con el que se dejó atrás el uso de revólver en este puerto, al entregar 66 armas largas y 50 armas cortas.
“La corporación municipal de Guaymas recibe armamento nuevo que sustituirá al que hasta ahora ha venido utilizando y que fortalecerá su infraestructura operativa y táctica”, destacó Munro Palacio.
Explicó que el equipamiento se realizó con una inversión conjunta del Gobierno de la República, a través del Subsemun, y recursos estatales que suman 2 millones 121 mil 4 pesos.
Con este tipo de acciones, el Gobernador Guillermo Padrés Elías refrenda su compromiso de seguir apoyando a las policías municipales, además de reforzar la coordinación entre las corporaciones de los tres órdenes de gobierno.
El Alcalde Otto Claussen Iberri agradeció el apoyo y la presencia del Secretario de Seguridad, quien cumplió con la entrega del equipo con el que se garantiza que el 100% de los elementos cuenten con un arma larga y una arma corta.

As an update to last Monday’s shoot out on the highway here in San Carlos it has now been reported in El Vigia that the person killed in this shoot out was an ex cop with who still has family members who are municipal police in Guaymas and the shooters were ex military who were thrown out of the military because they drug tested positive.
Which means that the State has just given a bunch of cops who are quite possibly working for the drug cartels some really nice new weapons!! Viva Mexico Cabrones!!
