Crime Statistics for Guaymas Municipio

On the 25 of December Ines and I petitioned the state to give us the crime statistics for the City of Guaymas for the years of 2012 & 2013. San Carlos is part of the city of Guaymas so any crimes committed in San Carlos would be counted in the stats for Guaymas. The following table is what we received from Hermosillo. You can download the original PDF here. 00838913 RESPUESTA DEFINITIVA-1

Clearly the statistics are incomplete. I know of at least two kidnapping’s that took place in San Carlos and Guaymas yet the stats read zero for that. My personal favorite crime stat for this table certainly is cattle rustling, I mean we do live in the wild wild west after all. Keep those doggies rolling, rawhide!

It seems to me that these statistics are incomplete at best and could be manipulated by the PAN State Government to show an increase in crime for a PRI controlled municipality or if there happens to be a PAN mayor certain crimes might be omitted. If these statistics are valid and the best that Hermosillo can do then crime is up in Guaymas. I know that certainly seems so when you follow the local news in Guaymas. San Carlos has seen two armed robbery attempts since the 11th of November 2013. Both these events deserve some attention. I will describe then in detail in San Carlos Wireless.

Below the Guaymas stats table I have placed a link to crime stats in Tucson. Click on the picture or here and it will take you to  Tucson City Crime web site. The most recent Murder stat  for Tucson in 2011 were 51 murders compared to 24 for Guaymas in 2013 and 18 in 2012. In terms of murders per 100,000 people, Tucson comes in at 9.7 per. Guaymas’s population according to 2010 stats is 113,000 people. That makes the stat a whopping 21 murders per 100,000. That’s not even counting Emplame which is a stones throw from Guaymas, has 42,516 people and had a total number of murders for 2013 that would be very close to if not surpassing that of Guaymas.

There is another glaring error in the statistics that makes me doubt their accuracy. On September 16th of 2012 a man named Ken was kidnapped in the Bahia Sector of San Carlos. The ransom was paid immediately. Ken was released in less than 48  hours, as I recall without looking at my notes it was actually less than 24 hours. A local San Carlos women went to jail for this and spent around a year behind bars before finally being released.

  1. If I combine the INTENTIONAL HOMICIDES and MANSLAUGHTER in the Guaymas area and compare that total to the MURDER rates for 100,000 in Tucson,,,Guaymas is MUCH higher!!!!

  2. I seriously almost fell into a kidnapping trap with myself and 5 family members in Guaymas around the Monumento el Pescador in 2015. Please be careful I still go every year but you need to be careful.
