On the 26th of November, 2019 Oscar Zepeda was murdered at his home. At his memorial I met a close friend of his and his family who described details of his murder that were not reported in the media. It is safe to say that Oscar was not involved in drugs or drug dealing of any kind. But Oscar was a well know ladies man and it is with little doubt that his murder was the result of a crime of passion. The fact that he was murdered is a real testament to how Guaymas has changed over the last few years. As many know violence in the Guaymas, Empalme area has gone off the scales. Oscar was not the only person murdered in San Carlos in November. The owner of Departamentos Adlai here in the Ranchitos was also murdered. With out going into details suffice it to say the word on the street was that the owner of Adlai was also murdered in a crime of passion. I also reported on Adriana Diaz who was murdered at the end of September and her murder was also consistent with a crime of passion. The big change here is that just a few years ago it would have been impossible to find a hit man so easily to terminate someone’s life. Hiring a sicario to murder someone here in San Carlos has gotten very easy indeed.

So enough said on that issue. I greatly enjoyed speaking with the many people I knew who had purchased a work of art from Oscar at the memorial. I was hoping to convince Oscar to paint a mural for me over at my shop for our Non Profit but clearly I waited to long to contact him.

RIP Oscar knowing that you finally did get your own art show.

Below is the Script from the Audio on the short video I produced for Oscar.

Script from above Video.

On the 31st of January the folks at Hammerheads and El Mar over at La Posada Beach, Troy and Noreen and and Ariel and Charlette set up a really nice art show and Memorial to honor the very well known local mural artist Oscar Zepeda. It was great listen to people share memories of how they ended up purchasing a work of art from him. Something that I would have never guessed is that Oscar never had a formal art show to display his talents. Until this show of course. Oscar was a real working artist and so successful in fact he didn’t need no stinkin show. He just worked. There is talk of making this a yearly event and setting up a scholarship in his name to help  aspiring artists that might be funded by making lithographs of some of his works and selling them, which I think is a great idea. So thanks to The folks at Hammerheads and El Mar for setting up this event for Oscar.

What do Lorenzo DeCima Mayor of Guaymas and Pena Nieto President of Mexico have in common? Incompetence and inability to lead comes to mind!

There are a few parallels between what is going on in Guaymas municipal government and what is going in the federal government in Mexico City. Even though Lorenzo DeCima is a PAN political hack he has a few things in common with Pena Nieto, Mexico’s worst president in modern history. Number one on the list… Continue Reading

Anyone who is familiar with recent events in Ayotzinapa realize that in Mexico it is hard to enforce laws that are supposed to protect the human rights of people let alone animals but traditionally under worked and over paid Mexican legislators non the less have… Continue Reading
