Bike & Hike Alacran Canyon

Bike & Hike Alacran Canyon

Bike MapTis the mountain biking and hiking season in San Carlos thus a few weeks ago I took the kids on their first hike to Cañón Alacran (Scorpion Canyon). We left from our bike shop right next to Rescate and started the loop going towards Nacapuli and finished off coming back via the old road to Algodones. Our route is marked in red on the topo map above. When you get to the end of Pirinola Canyon, the large valley that leads west before you get to Nacapuli, you will end up at a saddle overlooking the entrance to Alacran. The switchbacks are off to the left of the saddle and you will definitely want to walk down that section. The trip is most likely some where around 15 kilometers of biking and then hiking to the end of the canyon were you get to see on of the finest examples of fresh water springs our local mountain range, La Sierra del Aquaje has to offer. We took around 6 or 7 hours to do this trip but good riders and hikers could realistically do this trip in around 4 hours. The hike to Alacran Canyon takes about 40 minutes and we ditched the our bikes at the bottom of the switch backs. This is one of the premier bike and hikes in town so if anyone has any relatives in town and would like a guided trip out to the Scorpion Canyon let us know!
